During my wanderings through the city I stumbled upon some strange artwork. In my opinion, it may be related to masonry, especially as Hamburg is well know for its masonic elements.

The center piece of this art is a magic square (15), which is placed below the bridge in such a way, that the magic square is at the intersection of the bridge above and the pedestrian way below it.

According to the accompanying tablet, this artwork depicts the birth of an man, the following evolution up to his rest in paradise. At the center of the paradise stands a monolith of stone.

(Note, that the phase of conception seems to be missing, the usual arrangement is: conception, birth, crucification, rebirth.)

I feel that the position of the artwork with respect to the city needs further investigation.

AFAIK, magic squares function as gateways. A gateway connects two aspects, and this idea is again mirrored in choosing the location for the magic square, which is at the intersection of bridge and pedestrian way. Bridge and gateway form a cross with 90° angles.

Magic Square

The magic square is beneath a bridge on a pedestrian walk intersecting the bridge at a right angle. The idea of crucification comes to mind. The following figure has wings, which probably indicates rebirth after crucification as well as the soul leaving the body.

Paradise

Note that in the centre of paradise the Stone or the Monolith is placed.
Also, paradise seems to be egg-shaped.

The inscription states:

START

The art project PHÖNIX (phenix) consists of 4 episodes.

Birth, meaning the start of a human being, is represented by the northern glas mosaic.

Starting from the north, the lifeline tracks towards the magic square: the heart piece (Goethes Hexeneinmaleins). Here, man develops his essential spiritual capabilities; and follow no invigorated with spread arms his lifeline.

The king figure pictures developed man, who flies towards the garden of paradise as his forth and last station. At the end, the well know theology of bodily rebirth of all mankind in the light of our one god is found; whom we all want to and have to share in the end!

The arrangement and extension of the mosaics and stone pictures with plants to complete the whole artwork represents the desire of man for harmony in accord with nature and cosmos.

END

Note 1: Goethes Hexeneinmaleins refers to the play "Faust" by Goethe.
It indicates 15 as the sum of a row of column. 15 => 1 + 5 = 6. 6*15 => 666 666.

Note 2: The plants named mentioned the end indicate the garden of paradise.

Note 3: the inscription speaks of one god, which is typical for masonry.
